The Bumbleride Indie and Speed are 2 top-rated, high-end rides that continue to rule the roost in the world of upmarket jogging strollers.
These 2 are meant for active parents and have been engineered to meet parents’ urban and suburban lifestyles and needs.
But which one is best for you? Should you get the Indie or the Speed? Let’s help you clear the doubts.
Bumbleride Indie Review
The Bumbleride Indie 2018 model is a compact and lightweight 4th generation stroller designed to accommodate your child from birth up to when they are 55 pounds.
This stroller measures 37"L x 24.5"W x 26.5"- 45.5"H when open, and 32"L x 24.5"W x 11.5"H when folded.
For infants between 0 and 3 months, there is an option to add a bassinet or a car seat adapter for any of the following seats: Chicco, Graco, Maxi-Cosi Mico AP and Max 30, Cybex Aton, Aton 2 and Aton Q, and Nuna Pipa Series (Pipa, Pipa Lite & Lite LX).
The seat and everything else about it is simply amazing. The interior of the fabric, for instance, is a blend of bamboo and nylon and it does a great job of wicking away sweat and regulating the temperature.
The exterior, on the other hand, has been crafted from recycled PET (plastics, etc)- something that environment-conscious moms will love.
This seat that measures 14.5" by 9" has good padding and it’s complemented by nicely padded shoulder straps with impressive break-away harness. Its UPF 45+ canopy is also really tall at 23" from the seat and enough to accommodate taller kids.
I wouldn’t say that the Bumbleride is the lightest of all strollers at 24 pounds (the Britax Agile weighs in at 18 pounds). But that’s because this is a heavy-duty beast designed for the roughest terrains as its three 12-inch air-filled wheels and all-wheel system suggest.
The front wheel has a 360-degree swiveling action and an in-line lock option for a straight-ahead position that make the Indie a good bet for light joggers.
The handlebar is not telescopic, but it swivels up and down from a height of 26.5" to 45.5" to accommodate all heights.
Folding, carrying, and storing is an easy affair too. The Indie folds in a single step (as opposed to 2 steps that we are used to in most all-terrains), and it will also auto-lock and stand alone when folded.
Pros
Nice-looking
Feels sturdy and durable
Relatively lightweight
Deep recline
Oversized canopy
Will fit in most car’s trunk
Locks closed
Stand-up feature is impressive
Cons
Anyone who’ve used a lightweight stroller before will find this one pretty bulky
Handle is not telescopic
Bumbleride Speed Review
The Bumbleride Speed is more or less meant for parents who really love the Indie but would like more. This is a purpose-built running stroller meant for moms and dads who want an all-in-one stroller that they can walk, jog and run with.
Available in 4 high-end styles, the Speed weighs roughly 26 pounds and offers a weight limit of 65 pounds.
You might find it a little bit bulky at 39"L x 25"W x 35"-46"H when standing. But it’s quite compact at 33"L x 25"W x 15.5"H when folded.
Similar to the Indie, the Bumbleride Speed’s seat is meant for 3 months+ infants but there’s an option to add a bassinet or an adapter for infant car seat: the Maxi-Cosi Mico AP, Maxi-Cosi Mico Max 30, Cybex Aton Q, Cybex Aton, Aton 2, and all Nuna Pipa Series car seats.
This stroller also has an eye-catching UPF 45+ canopy featuring a magnetic viewing window. There’s also a pop-out extension for those times when the rider wants more coverage and a removable back panel too.
The PVC-free handlebar does not telescope, but it does rotate up and down thereby adjusting the height from 35" to 46" to accommodate users with varying heights.
Purposely designed for off-road and rough terrains, the Bumbleride Speed boasts 16" air-filled rear wheels and a 12" front wheel.
An interesting feature that any enthusiastic jogger will love is the 3-mode design that the Speed has been endowed with.
Depending on how you plan to use the stroller, you can set the front wheel to swivel 360 degrees or lock it in line to go straight. There’s also a 30-degree setting that lets the wheel to swivel 30 degrees only. You’ll find this mode very important when jogging at lower speed, on slightly rough terrain.
Folding is a single step process although you’ll need to use both hands. There’s also an auto-locking mechanism and the stroller can also stand on its own simply by positioning the front wheel properly.
Pros
Incredibly higher weight limit
Multiple usage modes
Bigger rear wheels for rough terrains
Near-flat recline for comfortable naps during strolls
One-step folding
Convenient auto-lock
Cons
It’s notably heavier
Bulkier compared to some strollers
Moment of truth - who should buy which stroller?
The Bumbleride Indie and Speed are very similar in most aspects. They are good-looking, eco-friendly, all-terrain, easy to push, and also relatively easier to transport and store.
There are a few differences between them, though, that might influence your decision. For instance, although the Speed is only a few dollar pricier than the Indie, it also has a considerably higher weight limit that technically promises longer usage.
However, keep in mind that the 65-pound weight limit of the Speed is more of an assurance of its quality construction considering that it might not comfortably hold the height of a typical 65-pound kid.
The 3 modes that the Speed offers again tend to make it a little bit more appealing than the Indie from a jogging stroller point of view. But the fact that it does not have a hand-operated break means that it’s not so safe to cruise downhill.
I would say that Indie is a great choice for parents who need an urban stroller that is all-terrain at the same time.
Speed is a good option rather for advanced joggers and runners, who would use it mainly for outdoor exercises, and occasionally for daily errands and walks.
